Comprehensive Thermal Resistance Converter

Thermal resistance quantifies how well a material or system resists the flow of heat. It is an essential parameter in fields such as building insulation, electronic component design, and thermal management. Our Thermal Resistance Converter lets you effortlessly convert between various units of thermal resistance—from the SI base unit (kelvin per watt) to units expressed in Fahrenheit hours per Btu (IT and th) and even on a per-second basis.

What Units Are Covered?

Our converter supports an extensive range of thermal resistance units, with conversion factors defined relative to kelvin per watt [K/W]:

  • Kelvin/watt [K/W] – The SI base unit for thermal resistance.

  • Degree Fahrenheit hour/Btu (IT) – 1 °F·h/Btu (IT) ≈ 1.8956342406 K/W.

  • Degree Fahrenheit hour/Btu (th) – 1 °F·h/Btu (th) ≈ 1.8969028295 K/W.

  • Degree Fahrenheit second/Btu (IT) – 1 °F·s/Btu (IT) ≈ 0.0005265651 K/W.

  • Degree Fahrenheit second/Btu (th) – 1 °F·s/Btu (th) ≈ 0.0005269175 K/W.

How Does It Work?

Our converter employs a two-step process:

  1. Convert to the Base Unit:
The input thermal resistance value is first converted into kelvin per watt using the conversion factor of the selected “From” unit.

  2. Convert to the Target Unit:
The value in K/W is then converted into your chosen “To” unit using its respective conversion factor.

This approach ensures that all conversions of thermal resistance values are accurate and consistent.
