Comprehensive Torque Converter
Torque (or moment of force) quantifies the tendency of a force to rotate an object about an axis. It is a critical parameter in mechanical design, engineering, and physics. Our Torque Converter tool allows you to quickly and accurately convert between various torque units—from the SI standard of newton meters to units such as newton centimeters, kilonewton meters, dyne-based units, and many common force-based units used in both metric and imperial systems.
What Units Are Covered?
Our converter supports an extensive range of torque units with conversion factors relative to 1 newton meter (N·m):
SI and Metric Units:
Newton meter [N*m] – The base unit.
Newton centimeter [N*cm] and Newton millimeter [N*mm].
Larger-Scale Units:
Kilonewton meter [kN*m].
Dyne-Based Units:
Dyne meter [dyn*m], Dyne centimeter [dyn*cm], and Dyne millimeter [dyn*mm].
Force-Derived Units:
Kilogram-force meter, Kilogram-force centimeter, and Kilogram-force millimeter.
Gram-force meter [gf*m], Gram-force centimeter, and Gram-force millimeter.
Imperial and Customary Units:
Ounce-force foot [ozf*ft] and Ounce-force inch [ozf*in].
Pound-force foot [lbf*ft] and Pound-force inch [lbf*in].
How Does It Work?
Our converter uses a two-step process:
Convert to the Base Unit:
The input torque is first converted to newton meters using the conversion factor for the selected “From” unit.Convert to the Target Unit:
The newton meter value is then converted into the chosen “To” unit using its corresponding conversion factor.
This process ensures that your torque calculations are both accurate and consistent.
